The Kievits beans (also called Pinto beans) have a mottled appearance and are called because they look like lapwing eggs. The beans are white and the spots and speckles have a purple-red color. When the beans are cooked, they turn evenly brown.

Taste: Kievits beans are slightly softer and finer in taste than kidney beans.

Application: The Kievitsboon fits perfectly in chili con carne and other bean dishes. This bean can also be processed perfectly in salads and soups.
